The Sharing Shelf

Reading recommendations are always a great way to “meet” new books or rediscover a place where a book has taken you before. Kate has rather eclectic taste in books and her bookshelves are filled to overflowing with a very interesting assortment. How she categorizes them is a mystery to all, but it probably has to do with the way she reads or rereads them. Often if she reads one she will read a whole series. His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander or the Time Quintet from Madeleine L’Engle or Cornelia Funke’s Inkheart Trilogy.

A few favorites that Kate enjoyed as a girl:
Millions of Cats by Wanda Gag
Eloise by Kay Thompson
Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne
Stuart Little by E.B.White
Charlotte’s Web by E.B.White
Mary Poppins Books by P.L.Travers
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

A few of the children’s and YA books Kate has enjoyed reading or rereading lately:

A Promise is a Promise by Knister
Dr. Desoto by William Stieg
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo
Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame (new edition with illustrations by Robert Ingpen)
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowlings
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Holes by Louis Sacher
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jaqueline Kelly

It is not much different with adult books. Kate likes mysteries, historical fiction, biography, philosophy, how-to books, travel books, cooks books, German or English, they all find a spot on Kate’s shelves.
